Prizes will be awarded to teams with the lowest scores

After golf, we’ll have lunch and distribute the prizes to winners for the second half of the season.

Match play is a scoring system where players keep track of each hole-by-hole winner, in a continuing format. It is most common for the player keeping score to write down the continuing score if they are “Up, Down or Even”. For example, if the scorer wins the first hole, she is “1 up”. If she loses the next hole, they are “even”.

The foursome for this 18-hole round will be paired by the tournament committee into flights using handicaps.  Two different matches for 9 holes; winners in the foursome play each other on the next 9 and the other two players enter a consolation round with each other, keeping their same foursome. Gross score only.  

Prizes will be awarded to the player winner in each foursome in each flight.

This “Solheim Cup” style event is in partnership with the Kalamazoo Women’s Golf Association (KWGA). This team event will have a 6/6/6/ format including scramble, best-ball and match play. GRWGA players will be matched according to handicap with similar KWGA players to make a foursome. Each two-person team will play the 6/6/6 format for the 18-hole round.

There will be four points available per foursome for the 18-hole round. One point for the scramble winner, one point for the best-ball winner and one point for each of the single match play winners. After all the points are added up the Association with the most points will take home the travel trophy.

This event will be gross scoring and GRWGA player handicaps will be used to set equal matches so a member must have a minimum of five rounds in the GRWGA handicapping system between September 2019 and July 15, 2020 to be eligible to participate in this event.

The rosters of registered players with their handicaps will be used to pair the teams of each association for equal competitive play. The KWGA has a handicap maximum of 36.

All are welcome to sign up and play however if there is an uneven number of players or an equal handicap match isn't possible some may be playing a regular golf game rather than the partner format for competition.

Stretch & Swing by Hulst Jepsen Physical Therapy

Stretching before playing golf helps to promote a fluid, full golf swing, which can improve your performance and protect you from injury. Doing regular golf stretches will improve your flexibility, increase your range of motion (which relaxes your swing and improves accuracy), and give you the ability to swing faster and harder.

Certified TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) professionals from Hulst Jepsen Physical Therapy will be at this event to share some key stretches good for your golf game and lead a stretch session to warm you up for the round of play.  Apply what you learn today to all your golf rounds to improve your swing and protect yourself from injury.

No special equipment required to participate.  The stretches in this session will all be above the ground.

This event kicks off the second season of the GRWGA. It will be a little different due to the circumstances of COVID-19.  Since golf courses are not allowed by state mandate to allow carts to be used, we will walk and play a 9-hole scramble. It seems walking 18 holes at a hilly course is a harsh way to start, smiles. Here are the details.

We know this takes away a lot of the fun we always have during this time of camaraderie.  We look forward to getting back to our regularly scheduled lunches and award presentations.
