It All Started When…

In the spring of 2018 a friend invited a friend, who invited another friend to play golf at a long standing Grand Rapids golf course. For this first round, two of the three golfers were essentially strangers. We enjoyed the camaraderie and the golf so we decided to meet up for golf each week. One of us always invited another new friend to join us to complete the foursome. We played fun games by hole and by round.

New friendships and golf partners emerged and our golf games improved. We agreed it would be fun to play other reputable courses around Grand Rapids and play in different formats.

After many rounds of golf and conversation, it seemed there was a growing informal
network of women who would like to:

  • Meet new friends with a common interest in golf

  • Play golf more often

  • Play other golf courses in the area

  • Play in a variety of formats/events

The three pondered, other urban areas had women’s golf associations that coordinate events for its members to meet and enjoy the game of golf with other women, why not Grand Rapids?

The inaugural season of the GRWGA was in 2019. The goal for the first season was to have 50 members. The association was embraced by many and in the first season attracted 130 members.
