Quick 9:  Ways to Give Yourself a Competitive Edge on the Golf Course...that Does NOT Include Practice

This is a summary of a podcast presented by Housewives of Golf.

  1. Play in Tournaments.  Playing in a competitive environment will make you a better golfer and you will learn from the other competitors.

  2. Record EVERY Score....not just the good scores.  No "vanity" handicaps.  When you show up for an A-B-C-D tournament, everyone wants their teammates handicaps to be accurate.  So if you have a vanity handicap of 12, but you are really an 18 golfer, that is not going to be fair to your teammates. In another episode, hosts talks about why an accurate handicap is important. Listen Here

  3. Play Different Courses.  Have you heard the saying "Her handicap doesn't travel"? That means that the player's handicap is only good for her home course.  Playing different courses will make your game more rounded and your handicap more accurate.

  4. Play with Different People.  Chances are that you are playing with the same people over and over.  Then when you play with strangers, you get nervous.  Playing with GRWGA pairs you with different players for every tournament and chips away at that nervousness of playing with strangers.

  5. Manage the Course.  No hero shots.  No Mickelson-type trick shots.  Not every pin is worth going for.

  6. Get Fitted For Clubs.  Getting custom fitted for custom clubs adds distance to your game...as much as 20-40 yards just by switching to a custom driver.

  7. Stay Hydrated.  Water, water, water.

  8. Build Strength and Endurance.  This will prevent injury AND gain distance on your clubs.  In another episode, hosts talks about how strength training leads to distance which leads to cutting 6+ strokes off your score every round. Listen Here

  9. Show up EARLY and Follow a Pre-Round Routine.  Don't just show right up to the first tee. Warm up...both physically and mentally.
